Celebrations for 100 years of the aircraft industry at Filton are taking place throughout 2010, with exhibitions, special events, workshops in schools, and the Bristol Aero Museum at Kemble opening for the whole of National Families Week.
Details and things to do are on the website at www.bac2010.co.uk

The Museum at Kemble Airfield

Through its collection of artifacts, ranging from aircraft, aero engines, missiles, spacecraft, and transport vehicles, through to model aircraft, the museum allows visitors to appreciate how the Bristol Aeroplane Company developed through pioneering work in new designs, processes and products.

The time-line route around the edge shows how aeroplane design and production changed, and includes a section on how WW2 affected life on the home front, then moves on to post-war aircraft including Concorde and helicopters, and past the Cold War weapons and nuclear armaments, to space exploration and satellites.  Large models of Airbus passenger aircraft brings us up to the present day.  The central areas have collections of aero engines and wind-tunnel development models, together with a horse-drawn tram under restoration, a Bristol double-decker bus and a 1920s Bristol Lorry representing the part played in road vehicle manufacture.   How to find us
