GLIDING Info
From Hertfordshire Scouts:-
Gliding opportunities - Herts/Camb/Beds/N. London
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the past few years, many Scout Troops and Explorer Units across the country have taken the opportunity to go gliding with Faulkes
Flying Foundation. Sadly this has now come to an end - but the great news is that Hertfordshire County Scouts have purchased one of
the motorgliders and we can continue to offer this opportunity. The even better news is that it's even cheaper than before.
Flying will now take place at the Cambridge Gliding Centre, about 8 miles north of Royston in Hertfordshire. Cost will be £30 for a day
including all of the briefings, ground training, and instruction and a flight of approximately 20 minutes. During the day, it is
possible to achieve the Aeronautics Badge. It is also possible to cover other requirements for the Aviation Skills Badges, or to
tailor the day to whatever level Air Scouts / Explorers have already reached - if you let me know in advance what subjects you would like
covered.
A maximum of ten Scouts or Explorers can be flown at each session. To book your day just pick a weekend date and send an email to
air.activities@herts-scouts.net and you'll get all of the information back by return.
It is shortly hoped to have a web-based booking system up and running at www.herts-scouts.net, in the meantime you can get some
information on Cambridge Gliding Centre from their website at www.glide.co.uk
Plans for the future include weekend camp programmes - Cambridge has an area for camping and now has indoor accommodation and
showers which were new in 2006.
AND.... We need a team of interested adults to develop these programmes - and to help run the ground supervision on flying days.
If you, your assistants and helpers, parents, or anyone over 16 are interested in doing this then please contact me.
